August 2006 Wine Tasting Notes: 2004 Pinot Noirs. 2004 Consilience Ashley's Vineyard Pinot Noir, Sta. Rita Hills.
More Consilience reviews Detail This wine was aged 15 months in 100% French Oak, no new barrels. Consilience winery has been making wine since 1997, but was formally founded in 1999. They have been making wines "loosely focused around the typical Rhône varietals" ever since. Their philosophy is to create wine with distinct expression of regional characteristics. Brett Escalera is the wine maker from Consilience. He brings experience from his ongoing tenure at Fess Parker Winery where he has been making wine since 1996. The fruit for this wine was sourced from Fess Parker's Ashley's Vineyard In the Santa Rita Hills AVA. The result is a marriage of Burgundian elegance of a cool growing climate with the richness and concentration of the Central Coast in one of it's best growing seasons. The vineyard is named after Fess Parker's daughter. 150 acres of the 620 acre estate are planted to Pinot Noir (clonal selection not specified). Also planted are: Chardonnay (15 acres), Pinot Blanc (13 acres), Pinot Gris (12 acres) and Syrah (10 acres). The vineyard has become renown for elegant wines produced - as have many others growing Pinot Noir in the cool climate or the Santa Rita Hills.
