2005 Curtis Viognier, Vogelzang Vineyard,
Santa Ynez Valley.
This Viognier is
light straw-gold colored with excellent clarity. Aromatically,
it offers intense citrus blossom and medium intensity tropical
and crème brûlée aromas, the latter
becoming more intense with increasing temperature. Citrus notes
become more prominent with time and airing. In the mouth, a core
of light citrus and distinct but proportionate mineral is
accented by butterscotch that starts out bolder and
diminishes with time. Medium-bodied, with a smooth and creamy
texture, this Viognier has a mineral and warm mouthfeel.
The medium length finish delivers light citrus, mineral and some
heat.

BOTTOM LINE: Fairly
good. No serious flaws. Worth trying.
Floral and tropical with good minerality, this Viognier has
lower than ideal acids and notable heat. It will do well as a
stand-up wine and
can be paired with richer seafood like crab cakes, sautéed,
braised or grilled shrimp and lobster tail - all with milder
spices. Don't over chill and do decant. Drink now.
