2005 Foxen Syrah, Williamson-Doré Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley.
Inky purple-colored with brooding garnet hues, a purple rim,
this wine is opaque. Intense high-toned aromas of fresh
blackberries become richer with air and take on a baked pie
character. Light aromas of violets and strawberries and
embellished by sweet oak and spices. Intense flavors of
blackberries follow in the mouth, with light pepper and brown
spice as well as notes of sweet oak. Full bodied, this wine
offers a fine, smooth texture and a slightly astringent but
supple mouthfeel. A medium finish is big on blackberries with
spice notes and a hot ending.

BOTTOM LINE: Very good.
Highly recommended.
This wine is very young, rich and voluptuous with floral edges.
It is brawny with bright, focused fruit. If you must drink it
now, decant and drink it slowly. Otherwise, lay it down for two
to three years and then enjoy with high a great steak
through 2018.
