The heat wave recently affecting the West Coast gave some wine grape growers reason for concern. Worries about the impact of the high heat on the development of grapes as well as on vineyard workers have been the topic of discussion lately.

Grape development is arrested in times of high heat – particularly when temperatures exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the vines do not have the chance to cool off at night.    Full story

Wine culture is taking hold among the U.S. middle class. More and more people are seeking to enjoy a lifestyle enriched by the finer things in life. At the same time, people are intimidated by the world of wine. Even those with higher educations don’t know where to start. To many, simple scores posted on the shelves next to wine bottles are not enough. Market research conducted by redwinebuzz.com during our development, showed that many people learned by the trial and error process at their local supermarket. This process does not make for informed buying decisions or satisfaction with wines purchased.

Enter the wine bar. Although they vary to some degree, wine bars offer two essential components of the wine experience: on-site wine consumption and wine retail.    Full story

Wine drinking and tasting can be a very different experience for women than it is for men. Over the years, I have noticed that my appreciation and perception of wine is not consistent over the course of the month. There were times when wine was bursting with bouquet and flavor and at other times the same wine tasted like sour grape juice. On some occasions, I could be on my third glass of wine without any hint of being intoxicated, and at other times one glass would put me down. What could explain the difference in my perception and appreciation of wine? The reason is simple: hormones. Hormones can affect aspects of women’s perception.

We have all heard the wisecracks about women being slaves to their hormonal cycle, however I cannot deny that there is a shift in my perception and enjoyment of wine depending on which hormone is surging through my body.    Full story

Tip of the month:

You do not need to buy a new house with an extra room for that growing wine collection. If your current home does not have room for a larger, climate controlled wine cabinet, do not despair. There may be a specialized climate controlled wine storage facility in your area which may take care of those prized beauties for you for a fee. Some better wine retailers provide this service for you as well.
