After a year of
hard work of growth, we
return to Pine Mountain Village. This event marks a milestone for
us. The 2006 Pine Mountain Wine Festival was the first article
written for redwinebuzz.com. |
 |
Pine Mountain Village, the commercial center of a private mountain
community in Kern County is located some 40 miles east of Santa Barbara
(map).
Pine Mountain Club is a
small, private, community with a
full-time population of around 600 (larger in peak season).
This picturesque community in the San Emigdio Mountain Range in Kern County
will be the site of the
Wine in the
Pines 2007 wine festival featuring Central Coast wineries and
restaurants. redwinebuzz.com
will be there to cover the festivities and to share in the fun.
|
The name of this
year's
festival and its organizers are different, but many wineries present
last
year
are returning and some newcomers will be present as well (List
of wineries). To date, over 30 wineries and 6 restaurants have
confirmed their participation. The festival will consist of
several events: a dinner on Friday June 8th, the main tasting
event in the Village Center on Saturday June 9th (noon to 4 pm) followed by a
wine auction, and a Pro-Am golf tournament followed by a luncheon on Sunday,
June 10th (Event Schedule).
A "wine art" show of work by Jill Targer, Donalee Nelson, and other
local artists is also planned. |

Last
year, wineries were pouring at individual booths set up in the Pine
Mountain Village Center. |
Wine in
the Pines 2007 will be hosted by the
Pine Mountain Club Property Owners Association, Inc., along with the
Pine Mountain Club Commercial Property Owners' Association, the
Pine Mountain
Village Merchants Association and the Pine Mountain Club Wine
Society. Representatives from those
organizations make up the festival's Steering Committee which is
organizing the festival.

Bakersfield-based
Fat Daddy Blues Band,
providing musical entertainment. At the time of the this article's
publication, organizers were still working to book locally-based
Lanny Ray and
the Reels. Also this year's tickets ($45
presale, $55 at the door) will include appetizers provided by
Wine Cottage
Bistro, Testa Catering (Dino's
Deli,) and
Chef Rick's. This is an important feature of
any festival, as food not only compliments wine but slows down in the
absorption of alcohol. The Hitching Post, Casmalia which will also be
selling grilled steaks at the event. (list of attending
Chefs). |
|
Fat Daddy Blues Band plays
blues and rock numbers. |
Local restaurants
and venues will be open as well, so visitors will be able to purchase
their goods as well. The organizers tell us that the layout for the
Saturday tasting will wind through the Village Center, encompassing a
greater area then last year's event. Greater supplies of drinking water will be
on hand than there were provided last year. Although most businesses accept credit cards, and some
usually accept checks, visitors should also bring ample cash, as the
village has only one ATM.
|
Another addition, which we
at redwinebuzz.com
embrace fully is encouraging the wine enthusiasts at the event to
practice responsible tasting: spit cups and collection buckets will be
provided. Wine is so much more a beautiful thing when one retains the
capacity to taste it. The wine auction will also give some down time to
those planning to drive home that day. A fun wine trivia game will be
presented by redwinebuzz.com.
We will also collect ballots for "The
People's Favorites" - an informal poll of the favorite white and red
wine as well as the "Best Decorated Booth". |

The
atmosphere in the Village Center is always festive. |
Wineries
have their schedules packed with festivals, but many keep returning to
Pine Mountain Village. "This is
one of my favorite events, not only because of the participants and high
caliber of consumers, but because it is such a great setting" says Norman Beko,
owner and winemaker of
Cottonwood
Canyon Vineyard & Winery. Gary Burk,
Costa de Oro
winemaker says: "I am truly looking forward to this year's Pine
Mountain festival. The setting is beautiful and the people behind the
festival are passionate about running a great event". Restaurants
participating this year are also excited to be part of the festivities:
"As a member of the Santa Maria Valley Wine Country Association
it is an honor to be able to provide food to accompany the award winning
wines from the Central Coast with a focus in the Santa Maria Valley.
Chef Troy Tolbert, formerly of the Bradley Ogden restaurant group, will
provide yummy tastes to WOW the guests" says Rebecca Jacobs, co-owner of
Wine Cottage
Bistro.
