2008 Wine in the Pines

The 2008 Wine in the Pines Festival will take place in the Pine Mountain Village on Saturday June 7th. Last year's event enjoyed a great deal of success with over 1000 people in attendance.

The Deal

This is very much the value wine event of Southern California, with 36 wineries Central Coast wineries and 11 other related wine brands present last year. In addition to wines, the event features food, music and a silent auction. All for less than $60. With new leadership on the festival's Steering Committee, the 2007 event was better than the preceding year's.

This year's event will feature Chef Rick, the Hitching Post Casmalia (with its oak pit grill), the cheeses from Testa’s Bistro and food from Café Med. Two live bands will play and a free concert by the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra will take place in Lampkin Park at the end of the day. No tickets required for this concert.  Festival tickets are available online: $45.00 in advance and $55.00 at the door. The event may sell out in advance. Ticket price includes wine tasting, a Riedel logo glass, food from several chefs, the wine art show and an opportunity to bid on wines during the wine auction.

The 2007 festival layout was more expansive, allowing for more booths and a broader experience of the village.

The Wine in the Pines festival is a community fundraiser with funds raised supporting "worthy and charitable causes that benefit Pine Mountain Club". Last year, the event raised $20,000 for the community's fire protection services.

This event features Central Coast wines and sees the attendance of public tastings like the World of Pinot Noir and Hopsice du Rhône. This year, wineries from Santa Barbara County and Paso Robles, including 11 new wineries (more may confirm after this is posted), will pour their wines in Pine Mountain Village.

What to do.

Visit the Wine in the Pines web site to purchase tickets.

If you will be attending, remember that this is an outdoor event and bring sunscreen.

There are also a few general tips we have for his event (and others of its size):

1). Wear dark, comfortable clothing. You will get splattered with wine.

2). Minimize what you carry. It can get crowded.

3). Plan and strategize. You can't taste all the wines in four hours.

4). Eat. There is usually plenty of food to keep your stomach full and your head clear.

5). Spit. You'll get more out of the event and we'll all get home safely.

Lodging (cabin rentals) are available through: Jennings Resort Rentals and Pine Mountain Rentals. This information is also available on the festival website.
