2005 JanKris Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles. Re-release.

SENSORY ASSESSMENT:

This Cabernet-based blend is a very dark and smoky garnet color with a magenta-ruby rim and good clarity. Once decanted, its aromas progress from light intensity licorice at first to sweet pipe tobacco and black fruit at first. With time and air, the latter gains definition as raspberry and black currant. Notes of smoke lace the bouquet. In the mouth, light currant flavors are framed by well integrated oak and spice notes and hints of dusty herbs. Upper medium bodied, this wine has a velvety texture with supple tea-like tannins and juicy acidity. The medium length finish delivers red fruit with a slightly astringent finish.

OPINION:

This is a ripe and lightly briary blend showing its terroir pedigree with nuance. It is highly advised that this wine be decanted and allowed to breathe for at least 30 minutes. it should pair well with cheese and meat appetizers as well as BBQ over the next three to four years.

BOTTOM LINE:

Good, with appealing characteristics.

Recommended.
