Arthur at work.

Arthur judges wines on the merits of component grapes, region grown and generally accepted expectations of a particular blend or varietal. Arthur tastes the whole bottle in its entirety from start to finish at (roughly) 10-15 minute intervals. He does not taste blind (with identifying information obscured) or in peer groups (a row of wines of the same style tasted together to pick stand-outs). The offering is judged against itself and not any reputation.

Arthur keeps detailed notes as he tastes and constantly amends them over the course of the bottle. Scores serve to asses the wine's merit against general expectations of the given type or style of wine. Please read descriptions of each wine carefully to judge if the wine is likely to suit your palate.

You may want to review our Tasting Methodology and our Rating System.

Arthur tastes all samples carefully. Notes reflect aromas, flavors, mouthfeel, alcohol levels as well as age worthiness.

Spitting is essential to keeping one's mind clear for judging (and one's stomach and liver intact).
