March 2008.

As wine festival season kicks off, there are some general tips we have for those large public tasting events:

1). Expect that you will get splattered with wine. Choose comfort over style. Dark, comfortable clothing will serve you best. Flat shoes are recommended as well.

2). These events get crowded. Minimize what you carry. You'll be able to get to the pourers without getting dirty looks from other attendees.

3). You can't taste all the wines in three hours. Plan and strategize.

4). Eat. Most events usually have plenty of appetizers. Some don't. For those, eat an hour or two before to help keep your head clear.

5). Spit. You'll get more out of the event and we'll all get home safely.
