What's up doc? Here it is! The new redwinebuzz.com newsletter! It certainly is a relief to us as it has been a long time coming. We've been busy little wine lovers over the past four months and we'd like to reassure everyone that we will continue to keep going stronger month after month. It has been a busy year for us and many things have changed. Most of the changes are behind the scenes. All of them are for the better! These changes will help the website function better and offer more to our visitors. Additionally, we will continue to increase our presence in the world of Central Coast wine. You may see us at a number of the events in wine country. Earlier this year, we migrated redwinebuzz.com to a Linux server. This comes with architecture to support greater speed and more utilities. First, no doubt, you will have noticed the difference in the look of the newsletter. We have a custom-built mailer utility that automatically manages our distribution list and will help ensure that the redwinebuzz.com makes it into your inbox and not your junk mail folder. Another exciting addition to our toolbox is our "Tell-a-friend" utility which allows a visitor to any of our pages to instantly tell a friend about content they found on redwinebuzz.com. This is all handled internally by the website so no third party is involved and, most importantly, the information entered when making a referral will not be disclosed to any third party. We have also incorporated some Google technology. Our calendar is now powered by Google, allowing us to provide readers with more detailed information, links to sites and maps of events listed. We have also added a Search engine. Now you can search the content of redwinebuzz.com. Speaking of content, we have added a Wine in the News section to offer pertinent news from the world of wine. Our glossary of wine terms as well as index of AVAs continue to be popular resources with visitors from all over the globe. We are currently building an index of grape varieties. We liberally link to these resources from our articles and wine reviews. This is in line with out philosophy of case-based learning. There is really no way to simplify any subject as complex as wine. A simplified explanation leads to a limited understanding. Demystifying wine, then, is all about offering clear, understandable explanations that an average reader can absorb and use. Our glossary is written in a clear manner and the index of wine grape varieties tells the reader about the origins of the variety, a little of its history, how much is planted in California (and the Central Coast where available) as well as the aroma and flavor characteristics of the wines made from the grape. In the coming year we will offer more focused learning modules such as those on Port and yield. We are also working with Central Coast chefs to bring our readers recipes to pair with the wines we review. Who better than a chef to pair wine and food? This is particularly important because wine is meant to accompany food. We hope that these wine and food combinations will serve as springboards for your own culinary adventures! We are also excited about our current work to develop and offer structured wine education resources utilizing various media. As our readership grows, we also hope to bring a greater sense of community by creating a discussion forum. Look also to redwinebuzz.com for wine-themed apparel and wine accessories. The first of these will be available in the coming month. With greater momentum, we are conducting more interviews with winemakers, getting more opportunities at the "inside scoop" - be it a story or a new wine. You will certainly see us at more Central Coast wine festivals (but remember, we can only be at one place at a time). This June, redwinebuzz.com will celebrate its first year anniversary. We started this website and newsletter with coverage of the wine festival in Pine Mountain Village and will return there this June 9th. We will certainly give you the scoop on that! |
